Abstract

Due to a steadily increasing environmental awareness and demanded legal guidelines the importance of material-sensitive recycling is becoming increasingly significant. In this context the recycling potential of wastes with a low potential recyclable content is not solved. Therefore the recyclability of metallic/metal oxidic waste especially shredder-residuals and filter dusts is analysed in this thesis. Their valuable metal content is too low for a conventional recycling process and the depositing of these wastes is prohibited because of different circumstances or only allowed under special preconditions (for example: Classifying process to get aware that a specific filter dust is not hazardous so that it can be deposited). Thus a material-sensitive recycling would be useful for both economical and ecological interests. The recycling potential of these wastes is analysed in an induction furnace in laboratory scale model. In a reducing atmosphere the wastes are molten in a copper metal bath. The aims of the experiment are to enrich precious metals (mainly copper and nickel) in the metal bath and to concentrate volatile metals in the dust (mainly zinc and lead). The results of the experiments from the copper bath reactor (induction furnace) are compared to those from an iron bath reactor, to show the advantages of the copper bath for the treatment of both waste fractions. Finally large scale experiments are done to survey the technical applicability of the copper bath reactor in a semi-industrial scale.
