Abstract

In the last few years the Motto „The bigger, the better“ has been used more and more in the area of the Materials Handling Sector. Mining machines which are getting bigger and bigger are ordered and used in mines, and at the same time the individual parts delivered to the final assembly site have been increasing in size as well. But the question is whether it is the right way to increase the transport size of individual parts in the same way. The optimum transportation size under economic and technical aspects shall be examined. A sidestep to other industries delivers a lot of examples. At prefabricated houses, complete side walls are delivered to site and just need to be assembled in the LEGO way. The airplane fabrication is another example, where complete fuselages are delivered with a special air freighter to the final assembly site. They both follow the same aim, which is to achieve the shortest possible cycle time during the final installations in order to use the resources as efficiently as possible! Based on the Hongsa Project, all transport sizes of the Conveyor System, Stacker, Reclaimer and the Spreader shall be investigated, considering technical and economic aspects. Therefore, the complete manufacturing chain, which consists of Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, Transport and Erection needs to be considered. The goal is to reduce the costs for one delivery item of the complete machine to achieve a minimum of total costs. Considering this, it might be beneficial to accept higher costs in certain areas to retain them in multiple ways elsewhere in the manufacturing chain. From the economic point of view it needs to be examined which costs have to be increased respectively decreased in order to receive a minimum of total costs. This thesis shall highlight these areas as well as their cross functional dependency on the partial costs. Furthermore the complete saving potential shall be shown based on the optimized transport sizes.
