Abstract

The present work was carried out in co-operation with the company AMAG rolling GmbH, in order to point out the current problems in electrolysis operations, particularly regarding to the cathode sheet. The detected process parameters were determined and recorded due to their importance. Therefore the investigations include the improvement of the cathode, whereby the strength of the sheet metal was the main focus. In order to be able to use resistant aluminium alloys in the electrolysis, they have to resistant to the acid milieu for a certain time interval. For this reason alloys were selected, which are in use currently and additionally exhibit low costs. The corrosion resistance was examined by means of aging experiments. Hereby Al 1070.3 (Al 99,7), Al 99,5K, Al 99,5KN and AG1S (AlMg1) were used. Further investigations were carried out, in order to determine mechanical and physical characteristic values. Thus, the positive as well as negative effects of a change of chemical composition of the sheet metals could be descriped. A further focus of this work was the improvement of the stripping assistance material, whereby new plastics were searched and afterwards tested in artificial electrolytes in laboratory experiments, in order to examine their adhesive strength.
