Abstract

Friction is of great importance in the metal forming, it particularly affects the material flow, damage and wear of the tools. A literature search attempted to determine the current state of the art of friction in the course of hot forming. In particular, the measurement of friction coefficients and modelling at elevated temperature was considered. In the practical part, ring-compression tests of different materials (42CrMo4 and AA6082) are carried out and evaluated at different temperatures and lubrication conditions. The results are presented in ring-compression charts, which were determined by FEM calculation. For validation, the results of the ring-compression tests are compared with those from a Rotary Forging Tribometer.
