Abstract

This Master Thesis deals with the development of a fully automated conveyor system which enables one to load and unload ships through a laterally arranged loading dock. Comprehensive literary research lead to the establishment of framework conditions which constituted the base of several schematic concepts. Following a feasibility study and presentation, the focus was narrowed down to two specific concepts which underwent critical technical assessment succeeded by standardised tests analysing strength aspects. Additionally, concepts regarding drive units and control logic were drafted and presented for these two prototypes. A modern three dimensional CAD Programme was utilized to visually illustrate the two concepts in order to solidify the construction method of this conveyor system prototype. From these competent propositions, the operation process of loading and unloading was derived. Furthermore, the models lead to the determination of the turnaround period as well as the investment costs and the amortisation period associated with them. The prototype was selected upon the acquired data.
