Abstract

Voestalpine BÖHLER Aerospace GmbH & CoKG is a leading supplier to the aerospace industry, specializing in the production of high-performance forged parts made of titanium-alloys, nickel-base alloys and high-alloyed steels. Heating of forging blanks is the first step of each forming process. Heating processes occur depending on the forging unit in different furnaces of diversified performances, refractory lines and volume. The use of a simple rule of thumb is suspended by the complex geometry of the components. Simulation of the heating time considering this influences is possible with a Computerized Heat Treatment (CHT) furnace model to serve a baseline for this work. The aim of this thesis is to define influence parameters of the heating time and to develope a method for calculation considering the geometry, by means of a suitable virtual body, the component material and the furnace. For this purpose measurements and simulations on cylindrical dummies were executed. For consideration of the geometry a study was executed to estimate the most appropriate virtual body.
