Abstract
The so called RecoDust process is a new pyrometallurgical approach for the treatment of residues from the steelmaking industry, especially converter dust. For the RecoDust slag (RDS) resulting from this process, internal and external recycling options are evaluated in this work. The internal recovery option primarily depends on the residual zinc content. If the zinc content is sufficiently low, the RDS can be recycled in the sinter plant as a secondary raw material. The basic suitability for this was confirmed by means of a sinter pot test. The required grain size distribution of the RDS can either be generated conventionally by mechanical comminution or by means of granulation. Dry slag granulation tests showed a basic granulability of the RDS. In contrast to this, a high level of wear and energy consumption during the crushing was determined using a four-stage optimized crushing chain and the LCPC test method. The external use of RDS is possible as an aggregate for heavy concrete or as a single-use blasting agent due to its high density of 4500 kg/m³.
