Abstract

This thesis is dedicated to a new drive concept for belt conveyors. Former belt conveyors are driven frictionally, which significantly limits their design scope, regarding length and slope. This limitation results from the maximum permissible belt pulling force which in turn results from the strength of the conveyor belt / material of the conveyor belt used. Even belt conveyors with intermediate drives, including those which are not only driven on the drive drums, are not really a good solution to this problem due to the non-cohesive frictional drive energy transfer. A toothed drive is to be designed by means of a timing belt-inspired toothing on the underside of the conveyor belt. This is intended to enable a great power density in the transmission of drive power, even at non-twining around the conveyor belt. This would have the advantage that drive energy can be introduced decentrally at any point of the belt conveyor. With this concept, a drive solution with several drive units, with arbitrary distances to one another, depending on the force requirement, is easily possible. Since the idea of the toothed belt is based on the timing belt, a detailed research on the subject of toothed belts / timing belts and their gearing geometry was carried out and examined for possible andvantages constructively use Furthermore, this thesis includes the development of a drive concept. This concept consists of two driven chains which are connected to one another via so-called drive rods. These drive rods, in turn, introduce the drive energy into the toothed conveyor belt. For this drive concept, different drive rod geometries are being investigated in order to find a suitable geometry and standard size for the implementation of the drive rods. With the selected geometry of the drive rods and the outcome of the research concerning the timing belts, a suggestion is made for the tooth geometry of the tooth conveyor belt. This proposal represents a detailed concept, of the tooth conveyor belt profile and is the goal of this thesis.
