Abstract

In large ESR-plants exist many requirements on welded connections between the electrode (round ingot 900 till 1800 mm, weight until 120 t) and the stub (round material 300 till 900 mm). The main objective is a high availability of the plant and the safety for the workers during the remelting process. A break off between the electrode and the stub during operation, sometimes lasting for more then a day, would result in a possible damage of the plant, a lower availability of the plant and a high risk for the operators. This master's thesis in collaboration with "INTECO special melting technologies GmbH", focusses on the mechanical, electrical, thermal and metallurgical requirements on the welding joint. The target is to weld a cheap and sustainable joint with a robotic MIG/MAG-welding machine. The result of this master's thesis is an Excel-sheet. In connection with the input parameters the program is able to calculate the complete welding time and the total costs of an electrode-stub welding. These results are the basis for the necessary requirements of the respective components. In future INTECO special melting technologies GmbH will work with this Excelsheet to calculate and design Electrode-Stub-weldments. Also the splitting and transmission of individual parts to customers is a possible facility.
