This diploma thesis deals with the possible utilisation of mill scale produced in the austrian iron and steel industry, under consideration of law and with a view on international projects. There are already some utilisation procedures which aren’t used on an big scale. International developed procedures for the utilisation of mill scale are very hard to adapt in Austria. The same applies to patents which were announced on this theme. The primary industries for mill scale utilisation in Austria are the cement industry, who use the scale as a secondary raw material, the lead
industry, which needs the scale for building slag and can also use loads with an higher amount of hydrocarbons, and the brick industry for making heavy sound proof bricks. The iron and steel producing industry should also be able to utilise mill scale.
