Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

Efficient planning and effective implementation of all the activities in the shipping process are crucial for the growth and success of a company in order to manage increasing shipment volumes and customer requirements. Optimizing the shipping process can help companies avoid long delivery times, high transportation costs and shipping errors. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to identify and analyze weaknesses based on a comprehensive analysis of the current shipping process in a manufacturing company. In order to achieve this goal, a comprehensive scientific literature research on the fundamentals, requirements and challenges of shipping process as well as the definition and methods of process management was first carried out. The practical part of the thesis is based on a case study focusing in particular on the optimization of shipment registrations with carriers and parcel service providers by considering the process-related requirements using the example of HOERBIGER Wien GmbH. After analyzing the current process and information flow, a target concept was developed, the possibilities of improvement through organizational adjustments and technical solutions were defined, and a requirements catalog was created. As part of a technical solution, available IT providers are researched on the market based on the defined requirements catalog and the solutions of each provider are analyzed in detail. The recommendations for action were provided by implementing a comparison method to the possible alternatives.
