Abstract
The content of this thesis is dealing with the optimization of production logistics in a factory in the polymer industry. The production is organized in a two-step production process, as there are extrusion and assembly. For the aspired improvements, the entire value stream was analyzed with focus on the organization of the material flow between the continuous extrusion and the assembly process. The value stream mapping and design were used for analysing the actual processes, which are tools of the lean management philosophy. The developed value stream map shows a clear image of the existing material flow and the supporting information flow, which are currently present in the factory. The identified improvement potentials are always developed in alignment with the demands of the customer. Based on these results a redesign of the production value stream can be developed and later implemented in the factory. The redesign is conducted in accordance to the design guidelines of the value stream design and is providing a clear image of the future state lean processes. The aim of the redesign is to achieve an overall optimum for all existing production processes. As an approach of this optimization primarily both a stock reduction of semi finished goods between extrusion and assembly process and finished products in the finish goods stock is required. To achieve these inventory reductions the lead-time of each product is identified and reduced. Because of lead-time and inventory reduction a reduction in delivery time, an increase in delivery performance and flexibility should be achieved. An additional focus of the value stream design is to generate small production orders in an economic way. Further financial information are added to evaluate and identify changes between the current state and future state value maps. In the thesis, the advantages and disadvantages of the analytic approach of the method are explained.
