Abstract

For most of the companies nowadays, it is essential to build up a process management system in order to remain competitive in the long term. The goal is to improve existing processes continuously to increase customer satisfaction. In order to be able to analyze and improve processes, the existing ones have to be recorded first. The extensive survey of process activities provides a clear picture of the actual state, furthermore it forms an ideal basis for possible future optimization plans. The goal of this thesis is to find a suited approach to record processes of companies in the construction industry and it is shown for the section „traffic infastructures“ of the austrian company „STRABAG AG“. Both the business processes in order processing, and the construction processes are recorded. After a detailed comparison of different process recording methods in the beginning of the thesis, each of them is proofed of its adequacy to record processes in the construction industry. Besides recording the process activities, it is also necessary to evaluate their actual performance. The study shows how to measure the essential key performance indicators such as process costs, quality or time. The result of the first part of the thesis is basically an ideal approach of recording the entire process flow including the process performance indicators in the construction industry. This approach is applied to various construction areas of the section „transportation infrastructure“ of „STRABAG AG“. The result is a mapping of existing process activities including their actual performance.
