Abstract

In contrast to traditional functional orientation, process management seems to convert a series of business challenges into standardized processes. The factors time, cost, and quality take the centre stage of process organisation. Enhancing company’s performance and achieving flexible market-orientation are the primary goals of business process optimization. However the foundation of business process development and process optimization is a transparent illustration of business processes and their interdependency. In the theoretical part this master thesis first introduces, why process management became the main trend in current company organisation. Particularly it shows how to illustrate business processes step by step. Then it demonstrates how to identify and collect the problems in the business by process analysis based on the mapping of processes. In the the end of theoretic part, the ten principles for lead time-reduction are introduced, which is an idea generation tool for reducing process lead time in process management. In the practical part the functional-activity charts as maps of business processes of a German textile doll and children’s clothing maker are drawn. Through this illustration, the reasons for time problems in its Chinese branch company are identified and collected. In addition, the ideas and methods against the time problem in this company are also introduced in the practical part. Readers of this master thesis are enabled to understand which points have to be considered within the business process illustration, analysis and how to identify the problems by business process approaches.
