Abstract

The aim of this work was to develop the design fundamentals for the automation of the production of an endless high mineral fibre. First part of the work was the documentation of the actual status of the production process to be applicable for the requirement specifications of an automation system. The control circuits had to be identified and recorded in a PID (Pipe Instrumentation Diagram) This led to a collection of parameters, which are essential for the construction of an industrial plant and allowed a preliminary design of a SCADA system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), which collects data for process control and history reports. Furthermore an enhanced understanding of the involved sub-processes was achieved. For example, the influence of auxiliary machines and engines, so-called package units, to the stability of the processes and the quality of the products was studied. Some of the proposed measures have been already implemented and lead to significant improvements of the production. Also the interactions among the sub-processes were analysed thoroughly. All data relevant for the operation of a future process control system were identified. The results of this work can be used for the construction of a new plant to improve the fibre production.
