Abstract
This master’s thesis develops an implementation methodology for fire and extinguishing tests on a pilot plant scale, which aims to quantify the effect of different extinguishing agents for class A fires. In addition to the selection of suitable fire loads and the ignition method, investigations are carried out regarding the extinguishing technique. Both 5A-standard wooden cribs and commercially available wooden pallets are ignited, which are extinguished by a test person in a standardized manner. With the help of thermocouples, weight sensors and an infrared camera, statements can be made about the extinguishing efficiency, of the used extinguishing attack or the used extinguishing agent. The evaluation criteria were the quantity of extinguishing agent used and the cooling rate (°C/s) inside and on the surface of the fire. The results show, that an assessment of the extinguishing efficiency of extinguishing agents is possible, based on the presented methodology. Another finding is that the extinguishing tactic used has a greater influence on the result than the extinguishing agent used.
