Abstract
Management systems play an important role in companies, but also in the education sector, when it comes to specifying processes and structured procedures. Therefore, it is of great importance to continuously improve and update a management system. This thesis deals with the streamlining of an existing management system. Firstly, the subject of management systems is introduced and the main terms are defined. An overview of the different types of management systems is given and then the quality management system is discussed in detail. The structure of a quality management system is outlined and the main quality management standard, ISO 9001, is described. Since the focus of this thesis is on streamlining the management system of the Chair of Economic- and Business Management at the Montanuniversität Leoben, the applicable legal framework for quality management systems at universities is also explained in more detail. In addition, the methods available for streamlining management systems are described. The main part of the thesis deals with the optimization of the management system of the Chair of Economic- and Business Management. In order to analyse the existing management system, interviews were conducted with the staff and the potential for improvement was identified. The implementation of the measures is described in detail so that the reader can adapt them to other management systems. These include measures to optimise the existing organisational structure and improvements in the area of standardisation and automation of activities. It also describes how to simplify the control of processes and implement continuous improvement of management systems.
