Abstract

The first part deals with the term sustainability and its ecological, economic, social in addition, technical dimensions. Strategic goals for these have been set up in this part. In order to concretize sustainability managing for the enterprise, on the one hand the surrounding field of the enterprise will become examined and on the other hand sustainability principles and aims for the enterprise specified: 1. Service and use orientation, 2. use of renewable resources, 3. efficiency principle, 4. recycle ability, 5. fit into place, flexibility, adaptability, error tolerance and prevention of risk, 6. safety device of work, income and quality of life, 7. life cycle orientation and 8. contribution to the social capital. Well known ecological methods have been compared in order to find the best evaluation method regarding the sustainability in the enterprise. For the social dimension the SSI (Sustainable Societal index) is represented. The first three evaluation methods according to the comparison rank as follows: 1. SPI (sustainable process index), 2. MIPS (material input per service), 3. Eco indicator 99 and CML method. The conversion of the principles of sustainable development and the appropriate use of evaluation methods are discussed by the example of the Supply chain for the production of an office furniture exemplary at three enterprises.
