Abstract
This thesis discusses the design, setup and testing of a device used for laser ultrasonic measurements. The main purpose of the device is to expand the testing capabilities of a thermomechanic simulator type Gleeble 3800. After a literature research on the basic concepts of laser ultrasonics, the thermomechanic simulator and the state of the art are reviewed. The requirements and environmental factors affecting the design of the device are gathered and discussed. In the next step, the developed design and its main components are presented. Since the device has to move simultaneously with the stroke of the Gleeble during mechanical tests, the development of a control software that allows the coupling of the device and the Gleeble is described. Subsequently, the assembly and setup of the device for testing purposes is addressed. The ability of the device to follow the Gleeble stroke with the required precision is assessed using a camera system mounted on the device. It is shown that for the predefined type of bulge experiments, the tracking quality is sufficient. Finally, an overview of steps to finalize the device and put it to a ready-to-use state is given. Also, the potential of appliances with testing machines other than the Gleeble is reviewed.
