Abstract

As the consequences of climate change become increasingly apparent, calls for stronger regulation of climate-damaging activities are becoming louder and the popularity of climate protection among the population is growing. Political decision-makers, including those from conservative parties, are increasingly beginning to focus on climate protection in their programmes and also in their government activities. However, in order to achieve widespread decarbonisation, industry must also move in this direction. However, since this movement always involves costs, this is currently still happening, in some cases rather timidly. In order to change this, in addition to legal requirements, there is a need for driving companies in the industry that can take a pioneering role in decarbonization and also have the power to motivate other companies to adopt such a strategy. Companies in the automotive industry are in an ideal position for such an implementation. Upstream and downstream of them are numerous small and large companies that can stick to a strategy specified by the OEM. The fact that the companies in the automotive industry have already understood this is demonstrated by the commitments of the major corporations to numerous climate protection agreements, such as that of Paris. This agreement requires our society to be completely climate-neutral from the year 2050. This naturally includes the climate-neutral production of vehicles, regardless of whether they are intended for passenger, goods, individual or public transport. Since this goal is still a long way off, a strategy with interim targets and milestones is needed to outline the path to climate-neutral vehicle production. A well-functioning logistics system is also required for the successful and economical production of vehicles. In order to produce vehicles in a climate-neutral way, logistics must also be climate-neutral as a result. In the transport sector in particular, however, the development of alternative, energy-efficient and climate-friendly drives or fuels is very diverse and fast-moving, and their use today is often not yet competitive. Coupled with the increasingly distant sales markets and suppliers in the automotive industry, the picture for logistical greenhouse gas emissions at OEMs is gloomy. The aim of this thesis is therefore to define concrete requirements for a decarbonised ideal system of transport logistics and to find measures with which the climate protection goals of companies can be achieved in the medium term in logistics as well. In connection with a cautious look at the development of greenhouse gas emissions of an OEM's transport logistics until 2030, the focus of the work is on estimating the effects of the measures found and the feasibility of their implementation.
