Abstract
Cooling or quenching of the heated steel is important for the composition of the microstructure. If the cooling rate is high enough the diffusionless transformation starts and the structure transforms from austenite into martensite. This structural arrangement gives the material more hardness, strength and increases the acid gas resistance. In this study, the total quenching is analysed by a calculation model. To reduce the computing time and storage capacity the geometry of the tube was substituted on a 2D model. For the thermal analysis simulation models for the outer quenching and further for the combination of external and internal cooling are created. The focus of this thesis is to analyse the temperature distribution across the wall thickness and the length of the steel pipe with the help of the FE-software package ABAQUS™.
