N2 - Secondary cooling is a critical step in achieving the desired surface quality of steel grades in continuous casting. The quality of the surface is highly dependent on the heat transfer coefficients (HTC) between the air-mist cooling sprays and the strand surface. The laboratory setups characterizing the HTC have been numerous, but the recently developed nozzle measuring stand (NMS) at “Montanuniversitaet Leoben” is unique in its ability to measure water distribution, impact pressure, and local HTC for a wide range of spray parameters, including the overlap region between two sprays. By embedding the NMS into the m²CAST 2D-FV-solidification simulation software, the measured parameters can be transformed via various regression models to enable direct control of surface temperature during CC.
