N2 - In the course of this work, a solution for the construction of an enclosure is being sought, which will be covered with about 237 m of tailings material and spoil from open pit from the processing plant of VA Erzberg GmbH. This results in a possible tailings volume of almost 65 million cubic meters. The enclosure to be built is 840,30 m long and connects directly to the northeast portal of the existing Plattentunnel (length: 1393,70 m). For the design of the escape concept, the total length of 2234,00 m is used. In order to avoid exceeding the maximum escape route distance of 500 m (STSG, 2022), an escape concept is proposed which includes a direct connection of the existing tunnel to the tunnel system of the ZaB - Zentrum am Berg (length: 717,20 m) , a parallel escape tunnel accompanying the Plattentunnel (length: 368,60 m) and the enclosure with a structurally separate escape route over the entire length. Numerical analysis of 44 combinations of different enclosure cross-sections, lining thicknesses, bolts, shotcrete, and cement-stabilized material surrounding the enclosure showed that a two-liner cross-section with 1,2 m thick outer and 0,4 m thick inner lining meets the requirements best in terms of minimum radial deformation and strength factor of the lining. Furthermore, this cross-section offers the possibility of subsequent installation of additional support measures within the structure. The numerical analysis also showed that the use of cement-stabilized material does not have a significant effect on compliance with the thresholds. The cost calculation has shown that the monetary effort for the construction of this project will amount to at least 15.930,85 euros per meter of tunnel. Although this means a total cost of around 30,93 million euros, the project offers future-oriented opportunities for VA Erzberg GmbH as well as the tunnel engineering industry. The further planning and future realization of this unique project will not only make it possible to deposit almost 65 million cubic meters of tailings, it will also provide space for innovation and research, in a world where infrastructures are increasingly taking place in the actual underground.
