N2 - The study was aimed at designing a project workflow that would be useful for monitoring the health and condition of (reclaimed) post-mining landscapes and was divided into two parts. The first part provided a comprehensive review of satellite missions and multispectral bands registered by their sensors. In addition, spectral indexes that can be helpful in determining the condition of the post-mining land were reviewed. Landsat missions were selected as the most suitable and the satellite images were used in the second part of the study, which was focused on designing an appropriate workflow for monitoring reclaimed post-mining areas. In this process, three spectral indexes (NDVI, EVI2 and SAVI) were used. Average monthly values of the indexes, as well as the standard deviation helped determine the condition of the vegetation. The analyses were compared with additional information such as archive data on droughts in Germany, but also species of trees present in the areas of interest. Satellites and vegetation indexes, along with additional information about weather conditions or species of vegetation, proved to be helpful in designing the process of monitoring reclaimed post-mining areas.
