Abstract

The first part of this thesis is a description of the various characteristics of driving assemblies for injection moulding machines. Because driving assemblies of servoelectrical injection moulding machines show some very special characteristics, this thesis sums up the various forms of driving assemblies, the possibilities of converting rotary into straight motions and the different designs of closing units.
The second part of this thesis is a market research project which was done in corporation with the Institut für Wirtschafts- und Betriebswissenschaften at the Montanuniversität Leoben. The aim of this research was to find out which servoelectrical injection moulding machines are in use and if servoelectrical injection moulding machines can meet the demands of the modern injection moulding industry.
The advantages and disadvantages of these driving assemblies are valued quite differently by the questioned companies. Those companies who have already gained practical experiences with servoelectrical injection moulding machines value these machines higher than companies who have no practical experiences with such machines. If the manufacturers of injection moulding machines can lower the price level and meet the improvements given by the questioned companies, servoelectrical driving assemblies are a promising alternative to hydraulical driving assemblies.
