Abstract

The complexity of modern products increases constantly. Strong demands of functionality and individual requirements on world-wide markets in addition with historically grown production programs lead to differentiated product structures with a high variety of product and process variants. This has consequences in all divisions, which can have positive and negative effects on the entrepreneurial success. The general description of the causes for a rising variant variety at the beginning of the thesis shows that the increase of the product variants supports additional customers requirements and access to new market segments or to new customers. In contrast to these benefits, a cost effect results from that variant variety. Higher costs are created over all functions and because increasable more complex operational sequences and structures. For enterprises with a flow production the variant problem is particularly critical, because to the cost effects also capacity and scheduling problems are added. This master thesis is concerned with the variant management in flow production which is necessary, in order to ensure a supply security within the supply chain, also with constantly rising variant variety. In this thesis, all necessary measures for the implementation of variant management in the flow production are explained and an elaboration of all necessary concepts, methods and strategies for flow of production optimization is provided.
