Untersuchung der Reaktionskinetik beim Recycling von Stahlwerksstaub

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

In the first part of this thesis the state of the art in steel mill dust processing is reviewed. The formation of dust in the electric arc furnace (EAF) is explained and the special characteristics of this valuable-metal loaded byproduct are described. Afterwards the “Waelz-kiln”, which is the dominating facility for EAF-dust processing nowadays, is explained. Based on the disadvantages of this technology and the aim to develop alternative process concepts, thermodynamic and kinetic knowledge is collected. These are the fundamentals for the execution of practical experiments in the induction furnace at the Chair of Non-ferrous metallurgy.18 trials were carried out to gain deeper knowledge about the temperature- and basicity-dependencies of the ongoing chemical reactions. Inaccuracy of modelling with nth-order reaction models led to the generation of a system of two differential equations, which was solved with Wolfram Mathematica. This allows the fitting of the iron- and zinc-oxide-concentration development and even the prediction of one from the other one. In addition to that, the description of the reaction mechanism is possible.
