Abstract

Hardly any other material has shaped the development of modern society as much as steel. The converter dusts, which accumulate in considerable quantities during the steelmaking process may contain significant amounts of zinc due to the scrap composition. The development of the pyrometallurgical RecoDust-process, enables the reprocessing of these dusts, which cannot be recycled within the steel mill. Experiments that have been carried out in a pilot plant at the Chair of Thermal Processing Technology at the Montanuniversitaet Leoben provided confident results in this regard. However, the current dust feed of the pilot plant is only partially scalable, which brings other options into focus. The preferred solution would be a pulsation-free pneumatic entry of the dust with natural gas. For this purpose, an investigation of the pneumatic conveyance of the converter dust’s fine fraction is essential. The aim of this work is to examine said conveyance and includes the construction of a test facility, which is required for this purpose. With the built test facility, it was possible to create a delivery status diagram for converter fine dusts. Furthermore, a required minimum gas velocity of 17.5 m/s for the achievement of an flight phase conveying with compressed air could be identified. Finally the determined value was converted for the use of natural gas as conveying medium.
