Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

The internal transport in the underground magnesite mine Breitenau, a mine operated by the company RHI, is currently performed by trucks that convey the raw magnesite over a spiral to an underground storage system. As the mine develops in deeper regions and the distances increase, internal transportation is getting more and more a cost driver. But not only the economical efforts are getting higher, also the changes in safety and mine winding due to the greater distances have to be discussed in this context. As a master thesis the possibilities of an additional access to the lower regions of the mine are evaluated. For that reason the various types of openings to access a mineral deposit and their combinations are determined and their advantages and disadvantages, as well as the applicability are examined. For the different accesses a transport system should be developed and economic considerations about construction costs and running costs should be made. Furthermore changes in safety and mine winding are assessed. The aim of this work is to find the best type of opening in terms of investment, running costs and safety.
