In the past few years project management, among other disciplines, which involve differentiation features, gained in importance. Rapid changes in the market situation and the need to respond to changes in a suitable manner require a high degree of flexibility and thus also a highly efficient project execution. Therefore, it is important to optimize the project management. Unused potentials are often the result of poorly defined project execution processes and ineffective information flows. A basic project cycle can be divided in the phases: project initiation, project start, project implementation and project closure. These phases allow an initial overview of the fields of activity as well as to grasp the complexity of project management. They provide an insight into the challenges within projects. These difficulties include problems due to internationality and interdisciplinarity, conflicts within the project team as well as uncertainties in the course of the project. In addition changes, claims and risks often lead to unexpected challenges and therefore an efficient change- and risk management is required. An integration of these three points in the project monitoring is recommended and promotes the efficiency of project execution. A suitable instrument to overcome the shortcomings of poorly project management is standardization in the context of continuous improvement. Therefore primarily phases, milestones and processes of project management need to be defined and analysed. This master thesis introduces a concept for optimization and standardization of process management based on the four-step method. It describes the development of a Project Guide Line. This order processing manual defines all contents and components of a project. In addition this approach and the design process are used to unify the project management of three plants of the Andritz Group in the Separation Division. Therefore an extensive process analysis is conducted. Based on this analysis weaknesses of the current process and improvements are determined. Furthermore, a new order fulfillment process is created.
