Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

This diploma thesis deals with several critical raw materials applied in Austria’s high technology. The first part describes the criticality of selected raw materials for the European Union and derives their national demand according to Austria‘s imports and exports. In the second part three critical raw materials are chosen – tungsten, antimony, and graphite – to evaluate their occurrences in Austria based on literature investigations and by means of deposit evaluation concepts. The following occurrences are selected and evaluated: •Tungstenoreoccurences Taffinalpe and Hochrast/Gumriaul in East Tyrol oCurrently not mineable. Exploration necessary. •Antimonyoreoccurrences Rabantserie in East Tyrol and Carinthia oNot minable. Very bad rock conditions. Exceeding Arsenic content. •Graphite occurrences Bunte Serie in Waldviertel, Lower Austria oCurrently not minable. Exploration necessary. Beneficiation problems. •Graphiteoccurrences Sunk in Styria oCurrently not minable. Exploration necessary. Based on common deposit evaluation concepts none of these occurrences are mineable. The third part is hypothetically concerned with Deposit to Mill concepts of these occurrences. A rough mining, cost and legal estimate is discussed.
