Abstract
In the modern oil and gas sector, the following practice has been formed during field development. Initially, at the exploration stage, several exploratory wells are constructed, usually vertical, from which all the necessary data on lithology, pressures, and so on is collected. Then, the obtained data is analyzed, and certain lessons and recommendations are learned from the experience of exploratory wells drilling, and the drilling experience in fields with similar characteristics is also taken into account. Subsequently, based on the analysis, a design of a typical production well is developed, which in the future will be used as the basis for all production wells at this field. Such a project should ensure the most efficient and safe development of the field. As the amount of information about this field increases, changes and adjustments may be made in the project; also, some changes can be made for specific wells privately. The development of such a typical project for the construction of a directional well for the development of the RSH/RSHN field in Algeria was the goal of the master thesis. This project includes the selection of the profile and development of the well’s design, taking into account the analysis of the available data and recommendations of the operator and service companies working at this field. The project has been tested for the ability of its implementation within the technical limit (drillability test), and also contains some recommendations for the well completion, as far as the available data allows. The proposed project has certain advantages in comparison with the previously existing, so the goals of the master thesis are considered to be achieved.
