N2 - IMIFABI, Europes third largest producer of talc, runs an underground mine in Vale Malenco/Lombardia/Italy with a production rate of approximately 110 tousand tons per year. The run-of-mine ore is refined in a processing plant which does not include a separation process. Due to this fact the ground product does not meet the quality requirements of the customers. Therefore, the implementation of a separating process will be necesarry in order to guarantee profitable sales in future. The target of this diploma thesis corresponds with this task of problem, whereas the main idea is to evaluate the possibility of a selective separation process in order to achieve a higher level of product quality in relationship to an acceptable recovery. The flotation technique can be seen as the only possible separation process in order to achieve product qualities at a high level. This fact results from the mineral analysis respectively the finest intergrowth of different minerals analysed on the talc ore from Brusada Ponticelli Mine. Flotation test series in laboratory scale have shown a remarkable increase in product qualities, while the weight recovery and recovery of valuable minerals meet acceptable results. The detailed data of all analysis performed, furthermore the evaluation of different mass streams can be seen as the basis to design a plant in pilot scale in additon to an economical study.
