Abstract
This diploma thesis deals with the planning process of a hydrographic surveying ship. The required sub-processes are examined in the individual chapters. First, the properties of the ship and the technical bases of echo sounding and of surveying with Global Positioning System (GPS) are specified. This is followed by a preliminary study on the purchase decision concerning the equipment of the hydrographic surveying ship. After the documentation of two test runs in standing and flowing water, their results are utilized to plan the retrofits necessary to use the ship as a hydrographic surveying ship. The APOS service (APOS Austrian Positioning System) of the BEV (Austrian Federal Office for Calibration and Measurement) is able to substitute the base station for certain GPS-surveying processes and this leads to a significant reduction of costs. Subsequently, an APOS-test measurement is described in detail to prove the area-wide availability along the river Danube. As a consequence of the results, the purchase of the required measuring instruments and other equipment is exemplified, and lastly, the choice of their most appropriate mounting position is covered.
