N2 - This Simacs project report is bringing up the issues related to the benefits and risks the Nordic mining companies have with sourcing from the Low Cost Countries. The sourcing process is facing obstacles which need to be solved, which is not always very easy. Sometimes these obstacles create costs which raise the costs of the products too high. The companies should try to find sources for their purchases or manufacturing from countries which are not just Low cost but Best Cost Countries. The report underlines the fact that low cost is not necessarily best cost, best cost may not be best value and what is the most important issue, is the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). For one mining customer the Best Cost Country may be different than for another. For the report different countries have been compared concerning their possibilities to do global trade, what can expected when dealing with the companies based in those countries. Sandvik equipment have been used for case studies in cost comparison. The opinions of few Nordic mining companies have been asked with questionnairies, and the answers given have been analysed.
