Due to a steadily increasing environmental awareness, an ever widening gap between Industrialized and 3rd world countries, and a growing pressure to reduce prices, sustainable methods of doing business are becoming more and more important. Hence, in order to ensure a competitive future companies are looking into production cycles which are less resource intensive and are adapting them to legal regulations. In this connection this paper will concern itself solely with the commitment of quoted businesses to sustainability, which took part in a questionnaire, in which the environmental, financial and social responsibilities as well as organizational aspects were defined in order to ensure a transparent significant result. The results of the study should provide a basis for more research projects in the field of corporate sustainability. Furthermore the Austrian and German sustainability-engagement should be compared.
