Germany and Austria have already established a quality system solely designed for the waste industry. Participation is voluntary and a certification imposes strict requirements on the waste handling plants. Beside, their performance is evaluated annually through an on-site inspection conducted by an independent expert. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the potential of an implementation of the above mentioned system in the Polish waste industry. For that reason the existing system in Germany and Austria is described and stated to what extend it can be called a management system or a quality management system. In a further part the present state of the Polish waste industry, especially its economic and legal situation, is presented and the current attitude of Polish wastemanagement-organizations and -companies is analysed. Furthermore it is worked out which additional expenses companies participating in this system will have to cover. A quality system solely designed for the Polish waste industry has a big potential to be implemented in the next few years.
