title = "Metal Recycling with Solvent-Extraction",
abstract = "The thesis explains some fundamental properties of vanadium, the sources of vanadium and also the recycling of vanadium oxides for two commercial methods, one is the recycling process of GFE Materials Technology Inc., while the other is the Processing of Egyptian boiler-ash for recycling of vanadium. First the characteristics of these two methods are introduced briefly. Then the solvent extraction process with two different types of organic extractants, Alamine 336 and Aliquat 336, is discussed. The main aim of this thesis was to summarize some theoretical methods of the recycling of the vanadium. The experimental part could not be done with vanadium, therefore copper was chosen to investigate solvent extraction in a mixer-settler. The copper ions in the feed solution were extracted first by an organic phase and then re-extracted with sulphuric acid. By titration, the concentration of copper ions in the aqueous solutions was determined. Through the balance calculation, the concentration of the Cu-ions in the organic phase could be calculated. In addition, the equilibrium line between the organic and aqueous phase was determined experimentally. Finally the fitted equilibrium line and operating line both could be drawn in a diagram and from the diagram it can be seen that the extraction could be operated with two theoretical stages.",
