Marktanalyse und Wirtschaftlichkeitsbetrachtung der dezentralen Energieerzeugung und -speicherung für Endkonsumenten

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

The rise in energy prices since the fall of 2021 and the associated uncertainties have led to a significantly increased interest in decentralized energy generation and storage systems among energy consumers. In this context, a market analysis and economic evaluation of decentralized electricity generation and storage systems on the part of energy consumers is carried out within the scope of this work. Firstly, electricity storage technologies that are suitable for decentralized use in combination with a photovoltaic system are identified. A systematic literature review has shown that electrochemical storage technologies in general, and battery storage systems based on Lithium-ion cells in particular, are currently most suitable for this purpose. In this context, possible grid-connected applications for electricity consumers are described, in particular the reduction of peak loads, maximization of self-consumption, integration of electromobility and independence from external disturbances. Furthermore, an overview of the existing market for decentralized electricity storage systems in the DACH region is provided as part of a secondary market analysis, with a focus on the Austrian market. In Austria, there has been a significant increase in the installation numbers of decentralized storage systems in recent years. The large number of applications for EAG funding in 2022 shows that there is strong interest in decentralized storage solutions in combination with a photovoltaic system from end users in both the residential and commercial/industrial sectors. The market situation is similar in Germany and Switzerland. Another important objective of the market analysis is to identify active suppliers of decentralized electricity storage solutions for residential, commercial and industrial sectors. In total, 50 manufacturers of decentralized storage systems are identified, with only manufacturers of lithium-ion-based energy storage systems being considered due to the dominance of this technology. Finally, the economic viability of decentralized energy generation and storage systems in the context of a commercial application is examined on the case of a bakery in the region of Leoben. Three different system configurations are considered and discussed in terms of economic performance.
