Abstract
International regulations increasingly claim for a reassessment of the consumption of material and energy resources in the iron and steel industry. A lab – scale sinter experiment allows a detailed analysis of the fuel substitution effects during the iron ore sinter process. Thereby coke breeze in the sinter rawmix was partially substituted by fuel gas. Based on the executed tests the findings of this work can be summarized as follows: 1.With a fuel gas as energy source the coke demand of the sinter process can be reduced. 2.Pulsed fuel gas injection provides a mean to stabilize the compactness of the combustion front. 3.Yield and strength of the produced sinter material reach the quality requirements for the preparation of the blast furnace burden. 4.Fuel substitution results in diminished offgas emissions particularly for the exhaust gas components SO2 and CO.
