title = "Investigation of lining solutions for a lined rock cavern at the site of Zentrum am Berg",
abstract = "In this thesis, different options for the lining of hydrogen storage facilities and their dimensioning are shown using an analytical calculation from the field of pressure tunnel construction. The first part of the thesis deals with existing concepts for the storage of hydrogen and their geological requirements, the effects considered and their advantages and disadvantages. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to the necessary adaptations of the existing concept of the Lined Rock Cavern for the storage of hydrogen to the analytical solution from pressure tunnel construction. In the following, the required boundary conditions are defined, the necessary rock mechanical input parameters are listed and, if necessary, calculated. In a further step, the analytical solution is derived and influences such as temperature influence, buckling and creep are explained. This is done first for a steel lining and then for a prestressed concrete lining. The two analytical solutions are then applied to three different geologies and three different storage pressures from hydrogen storage as examples and the results are compared with each other. As a result of this work, it can be said that a steel lining is better suited for pressurized storage. Furthermore, a verification of the analytical solution is carried out using two design examples and then the influence of the different input parameters of geology, lining material and influences from the underground temperature are determined using sensitivity analysis. In the discussion, possible improvements, and optimizations of the steel lining as well as which changes to the concept of the prestressed concrete lining are necessary to meet the requirements of a pressure reservoir are listed. Finally, the next necessary steps for the construction of a Lined Rock Cavern pilot facility at the Zentrum am Berg are listed.",
