Abstract

The Knapp Systemintegration GmbH (KSI) company is specialized in intralogistics solutions for the hardware- und software sector. The international customers range from the pharmaceutical industry, food industry to the textile industry. KSI is one of the global leaders in the intralogistics branch. The fourth industrial revolution, better known as “Industry 4.0” has also influenced this branch strongly. On the one hand side the projects are always getting bigger and more complex, on the other hand side the software- and hardware components are linked horizontally and vertically. The running of a warehouse means that all data can be recalled in real time. On the horizontal side the cross linking includes incoming goods as well as outgoing goods. The vertical part covers the control panel as well as simple engines in the conveyor. These changes mean a big challenge for companies like KSI. Besides the software development the software tests covers a major part of a software project. The first part of this paper concerns the theoretical background of “Industry 4.0”. With the help of practical examples, it is shown how important software testing is nowadays and the disastrous consequences that can occur by using inferior software. Basics of the software testing are described. In the second part the testing process of KSI is analyzed. Room for improvement is shown and schematically illustrated with the aim of practical examples. The aim of this work is to analyze the historical growth of the testing process in the KSI. Besides the testing process, the procedure of test case administration and data compilation are analyzed. Based on the procedures named in the literature the analyzed parts will be revised. The paper concludes with some implementation suggestions within the software testing process.
