Abstract

For atomization of liquids, it is necessary to device knowledge about the time constants and rates of droplet generation. Exemplarily, this is an important aspect for quality control in powder production via atomization of melts. For understanding the droplet kinetics of sprays, high-speed cameras are essential for recording the fast processes which cannot be detected by the human eye. The theoretical part of this diploma thesis engages in the technical background of the camera, which within the investigated experiment is able to take pictures at frame rates up to 128.000 pictures per second. Moreover, optical and illumination components will also be discussed. Different technical options of photography will be identified with a view of the project-oriented benefits and disadvantages. Furthermore, basic aspects of spray kinetics are demonstrated and explained. In the practical part of this thesis, an adequate illumination is found with a digital reflex camera for the main experiment. In the experiment section pictures will be taken of water-sprays with a digital high-speed camera. The picture outputs are shown and analyzed.
