Abstract

This paper gives an overview of established and innovative techniques for creating micro- and nanostructures on metal surfaces. For this purpose the parameters and characteristic values of particular procedures are explained by means of a technology monitoring. They are classified and compared as far possible between the different procedures. In addition the measurement for micro- and nanostructured surfaces are discussed and sample pattern from different companies are studied by using stereo, scanning electron and confocal microscopy. The aim of this paper is to give an overview on structuring metallic surfaces in the micro- and nanometer range, specify their ideal process and application fields and using charts and diagrams for comparison. In addition examples and lists of companies who apply these procedures and technologies and those companies who offer machines to produce these structures complete this work. The research to this work was carried out primarily using the data base Science Direct, the books of the library of the Montanuniversität Leoben, internet and by personal contact with companies.
