Abstract
The existing production processes for CFRP parts in the BMW AG should be expanded through another process, the RFI (Resin Film Infusion) process. Optimizations in every process step of the standard RFI process make it possible the produce outer skin parts in a more economical way up to an amount of 1500 pieces a year. Because of low quantity and low quality demands on outer skin parts the existing production processes are not suitable. After analyzing the standard RFI process, the process could be divided into preparation, the drape of the resin and fibres, the vacuum composition and the cure cycle. On closer inspection of these process steps you will find many suggestions for process improvement. To rate the efficiency of these suggestions it is necessary to carry out pre-tests to guarantee the most sensible use.
