Abstract

A dashboard is an interactive, visual report in which data is prepared in a user-friendly way and made available to a specific group of people. With the help of various forms of visualization, such as bar or line charts, interrelationships and complex structures can be presented transparently, representing added value for companies. This work aims to create a dashboard for voestalpine Stahl Donawitz GmbH in which the past, current and future consumption of the technical gases oxygen, nitrogen and argon are visualised. This visualization is carried out with the help of Microsoft¿s data visualisation programme Power BI. Since the production of the three technical gases oxygen, nitrogen and argon with the help of air separation plants is very energy-intensive, the production costs depend heavily on the current electricity price. Therefore, it is essential to be able to make consumption forecasts for the future to optimize costs for future production planning. In order to create a forecasting tool in Power BI, it is necessary to use and process consumption data and production quantities from the blast furnace and steelworks. In this paper, the historical and current consumptions are visualised using oxygen as an example medium, and the potential of the integrated forecasting tool is demonstrated using case studies. It is shown how this dashboard helps with optimizing production planning and thus achieve cost savings. The dashboard can serve as a planning tool for informed decisions in energy management.
