The potential of sand and gravel deposits within four Austrian provinces (Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Styria and Burgenland) was determined by means of a literature research. Based on those research six small-scale zones were chosen by the constituent, for which a graphical illustration of the land use planning was prepared. It is shown, that in two zones (Tullnerfeld Süd und Marchfeld West) legislative restrictions forbid the erection of any sand and gravel mine. Within the residual zones, land use planning strongly restricts the availability of potential reserve areas.
