Abstract

Powder injection moulding of ceramic and metal powder receives an increasing technical significance. In this process products can be produced near net shape with minimal post-processing needs. Within the frame of the EU-Craft project New Material Laws for Powder Filled Injection Moulding (MATLAW), the flow behaviour of feedstocks is investigated in detail. This diploma thesis is part of this project. In this thesis the viscosity, plasticizing- and injection work of several MIM-Feedstocks have been detected. Different feedstock charges and regrind materials were measured. Additional measurements were carried out on feedstocks with different powder content. By these measurements the viscosity of the feedstock can be calculated out of the binder viscosity by the concept of the shear rate super elevation of Geisbüsch. The viscosity has been measured on the high pressure capillary rheometer as well as on the injection moulding machine. The measurements were done in shear rate range of 0.1 s-1 and 6,000 s-1. For these measurements the PIM-Slit-Die of the Institute of Plastics Processing was used. On the injection moulding machine the rheological slit die RheoNoz and the PIM-Slit-Die were used. The plasticizing and injection work were calculated by injection moulding of tensile specimens.
