Abstract

In the present work the influencing factors on the heat transfer coefficient during aluminium-silicon chill casting are investigated.
In the literary overview all the heat transfer influencing factors are specified and their mode of action is described. Particular emphasis was on chill die material and its thickness, solidification type, coating, casting temperature, temperature of chill, air gap formation, metallostatic pressure and geometry. In the following experimental part the influence of the casting temperature, the chill temperature und the coating thickness were analyzed. Therefore a chill die was designed and manufactured, in which a casting with the shape of a cone can be casted. The chill die itself consists of a fixed bottom and a rotable top. Additionally the chill die had cooling/heating channels to control the die temperature and integrated thermocouples.
During the experiments temperature curves were recorded and subsequently the heat transfer coefficient was approximately determined by iterative methods using Magmasoft
