Abstract

The objective of this thesis was the development and implementation of an integrated mining controlling and management information system based on the needs of the mining division of STRABAG SE, which internationally operates more than 200 quarries. Based on the definition of required mining controlling and management information from local quarries and centralized administrative units an overall process organization has been structured to allow data collection within the quarries through uniform data entry screens and a standardized process logic. A well structured reporting system was developed and set up in order to provide a single point of information feed back both for the management and the users within the quarries. Separate software modules have been developed for each task of data capture, data storage, data management and data presentation. Special focus has been given to identify strategies for a successful project implementation in terms of project structure, data and process organization as well as software development. The set-up of the necessary master- and process data architecture, strategies of data acquisition systems and furthermore an analyzing and reporting strategy are laid out in detail. The implementation of the project in quarries is presented; structure and functionalities of the individual software modules are described. Two case studies provide insight to the practical aspects of the system implementation in local quarries. Benefits and advantages of the developed system and conclusions are discussed based on these case studies. The outcome of this thesis simplified management and integration of quarries into the STRABAG SE, furthermore quality of mining controlling and management information available from the quarries of STRABAG SE was increased.
